Rhode Island Property & Casualty exam and resident-license path
Rhode Island does not require or approve prelicensing education. This 70-day online Self Study product is optional independent exam preparation and is not represented as a licensing requirement, Rhode Island-approved education, completion credit, an official study manual, or a regulator-approved provider offering.
Two separate producer exams: A first-time P&C candidate must register for both 03 Property Producer and 04 Casualty Producer. Each exam allows 1 hour 15 minutes for General knowledge plus 45 minutes for Rhode Island law. The current test-center table lists $80 per exam and says a back-to-back two-exam session is buy-one-get-one-free.
1. Prepare for both outlines
Property includes 50 scoreable plus 5 pretest General questions and 26 scoreable plus 6 pretest Rhode Island questions. Casualty includes 50 plus 5 General and 32 plus 6 Rhode Island questions. TSI is independent preparation; DBR and Pearson VUE do not issue or endorse TSI study material.
2. Choose test-center or OnVUE delivery
Both delivery methods are available. After two failed attempts through online testing, the next attempt must be at a physical testing site. Reserve at least 24 hours before the desired date.
3. Protect the fee and understand the score
The passing score is a scaled 70, not a raw percentage. Give Pearson at least 48 hours notice to change or cancel without forfeiting the fee, and wait 24 hours before making a retake reservation.
4. Apply and complete resident requirements
After passing both exams, allow 3 to 5 business days for results to reach NIPR, then apply within one year. The state fee is $120 plus any NIPR transaction fee. Submit the certified Rhode Island BCI with the transaction number. A resident producer who sells, solicits, or negotiates insurance must maintain errors-and-omissions coverage.
