Texas license renewal requirements
Most major licenses
Most Texas agent and adjuster licenses require 24 CE hours during each two-year renewal period, including 3 hours of ethics or consumer protection credit.
Classroom equivalent hours
At least half of the required CE hours must be classroom or classroom equivalent. For the common 24-hour renewal, that means at least 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours.
Reduced-hour categories
TDI lists County Mutual, Life Insurance Under $25,000, and Limited Lines Agent licenses at 10 hours per two-year period, including 3 ethics hours. Funeral Prearrangement is listed with no CE requirement.
Completion deadline
CE must be completed before the license expiration date. TDI notes fines for deficient hours and recommends finishing early so providers have time to report completions.
Product-specific certifications and compliance training
Medicare-related Product Certification
Texas life, accident, and health agents must complete an approved 8-hour Medicare-related product certification course before acting as an agent for Medicare-related products. TDI lists a 4-hour Medicare-related CE requirement in later reporting periods after certification.
Annuity Best Interest
Agents who sell annuities need approved Annuity Best Interest training. Texas identifies the four-credit course category as Annuity Best Interest 4, separate from general CE topic planning.
Ethics
The Ethics for Insurance Professionals course is a 4-hour CE course for agents who need the required ethics or consumer-protection topic documented.
Anti-Money Laundering
AML gives 4 Texas CE hours and anti-money laundering training documentation. It is compliance training, not a separate TDI product authority license.
