Current Massachusetts resident sequence
- Choose the individual lines needed. Life, Accident and Health, Property, and Casualty are separate producer examinations.
- Use optional independent Self Study if helpful. Current NIPR rules do not list a prelicensing-course requirement, but the Division controls the live requirements.
- Reserve each matching exam with Pearson. Exams are in person, the handbook requires at least 48 hours advance scheduling, each major-line producer exam is currently $37, and the scaled passing score is 70.
- After passing the required exam or exams, apply through NIPR for the lines sought. The current producer state fee is $225, excluding the NIPR transaction fee.
- Add the current $75 lead-paint surcharge when applying for Property, Casualty, or Personal Lines. Supporting documents may be requested, and insurer appointment is separate.

What do the Massachusetts producer exams cost?
Pearson currently lists $37 for each Life, Accident and Health, Property, and Casualty producer exam. Each reservation and retake requires its own fee.
How many questions are on each major-line producer exam?
Each current outline contains 50 scored general-knowledge questions plus 5 unscored pretest questions and 30 scored Massachusetts-specific questions plus 5 unscored pretest questions: 80 scored questions plus 10 unscored pretest questions per exam.
What score is required?
The current Pearson handbook lists a scaled passing score of 70. It is not 70 percent, a raw score, or a fixed number correct.
How early should an exam be scheduled?
The June 2026 handbook says reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance and walk-ins are unavailable. Confirm appointment availability and the exact test center when scheduling.
What happens after a failed exam?
Register again with Pearson and pay another exam fee. The current handbook does not state a separate ordinary-producer waiting period, but appointment availability and eligibility still apply.
Is a prelicensing course required?
Current NIPR resident-producer requirements do not list a prelicensing course. Massachusetts law permits the commissioner to require one, so confirm the current line-specific rules. TSI is optional independent preparation and is not state-required or state-endorsed education.
What is the current resident producer application fee?

No. Purchase provides optional study access only. TSI does not guarantee study completion, exam passage, application approval, appointment, or license issuance.
Course boundary: Each listed $114.95 purchase provides 70 days of optional independent online Self Study access for the selected line pair. Pearson examinations, state/NIPR application, surcharges, appointments, and license costs are separate.
