Current Montana resident sequence
- Choose the producer lines needed. Montana treats Property and Casualty as separate exams.
- Use optional independent Self Study if helpful. CSI’s current resident steps do not list a prelicensing education-hour requirement for this route.
- Reserve the matching Pearson examinations. Property is allotted two hours total and Casualty two hours fifteen minutes total; each exam currently costs $65.
- After passing, apply through NIPR, submit CSI’s applicant-rights and fingerprint-consent form, and send the fingerprint card plus required payment directly to Montana Criminal Records.
- Confirm final fees and requirements in the official systems. NIPR currently displays a $0 producer state fee, excludes its transaction fee, and says exam results remain valid for one year.

Does Montana require prelicensing education hours for Property and Casualty?
CSI's current resident-license steps and producer qualification checklist do not list a prelicensing education-hour requirement. This TSI course is optional independent exam preparation, not a state-required completion certificate.
Are Property and Casualty one combined Montana exam?
No. Montana lists separate Property and Casualty producer exams. Each exam has a general-knowledge part and a Montana-specific part.
How long are the Montana Property and Casualty exams?
Property is allotted 1 hour 15 minutes for general knowledge plus 45 minutes for Montana Property. Casualty is allotted 1 hour 15 minutes for general knowledge plus 1 hour for Montana Casualty.
What does each Montana producer exam cost?
Pearson currently lists a $65 examination fee. Property and Casualty are separate exams, so confirm the current total before reserving both.
What score is needed to pass?
CSI describes the passing score as 75 percent or better, while Pearson reports a scaled result. Follow the official score report rather than treating 75 as a fixed number of correct answers.
Can the exams be taken online?
Pearson currently offers test-center and OnVUE delivery. OnVUE has identification, technical, workspace, and proctoring requirements; after two online attempts for an exam, later attempts must use a test center.
What happens after passing?
Apply through NIPR, submit CSI's applicant-rights and fingerprint-consent form, and send the fingerprint card and required payment directly to Montana Criminal Records. Exam results are valid for one year.
What is the current application fee?
NIPR currently displays a $0 Insurance Producer state fee and says its transaction fees are separate. Pearson's December 2025 handbook still displays $50, so confirm the live total in NIPR when applying.
Does this course guarantee a pass or license?
No. Study completion, exam passage, background review, application approval, company appointment, and license issuance are separate and are not guaranteed.
