Illinois P&C prelicensing requirements
The Illinois Department of Insurance currently requires 20 hours of prelicensing education for Property and 20 hours for Casualty. At least 7.5 hours for each line must be completed in a classroom or webinar setting: 40 total prelicensing hours, including 15 classroom or webinar hours, for the combined P&C path. Self-study alone does not satisfy Illinois prelicensing.
Exam and application sequence
- Complete the required education for each line you plan to pursue.
- Register with Pearson VUE for the General and State exam for each line.
- Pass the General and State portions for a line within 90 days of each other.
- Wait the current five-day period after passing, then apply online through NIPR.
