Current Maine resident sequence
- Choose the lines needed and whether to take the available combined exam or matching separate exams.
- Use optional independent Self Study if helpful. Maine repealed the former education requirement in 2007; the applicable exam still controls unless an exemption applies.
- Reserve the physical Pearson exam. Combined L&H and P&C exams are currently $80; separate major-line exams are $55 each; the scaled passing score is 70.
- After passing the required exam, apply through NIPR. NIPR currently lists $25 including the $15 application fee, excluding its transaction fee.
- Provide required Maine-residency evidence and any background-question documents. Insurer appointment is separate; the sponsored apprentice producer route is also separate.

Where are Maine insurance exams delivered?
Pearson delivers Maine insurance exams at physical test centers. Choose an available center and appointment when making the reservation.
Can Life and Health be taken as one combined Maine exam?
Yes. Pearson lists combined Life, Accident and Health exam 12-ME-01 at 3 hours 30 minutes and $80. Separate Life 12-ME-41 and Accident and Health 12-ME-42 exams are also listed at $55 each.
Can Property and Casualty be taken as one combined Maine exam?
Yes. Pearson lists combined Property and Casualty exam 12-ME-03 at 3 hours 30 minutes and $80. Separate Property 12-ME-43 and Casualty 12-ME-44 exams are also listed at $55 each.
What score is required?
The current Pearson handbook lists a scaled passing score of 70. It is not a raw score or a statement that exactly 70 percent must be answered correctly.
How early should an exam be scheduled?
Pearson says an appointment may be scheduled up to one calendar day before the desired date when space is available. Phone reservations require at least 24 hours, and walk-ins are not accepted.
What happens after a failed exam?
Maine law requires a new application and fee after a failed exam, and the Pearson handbook says to wait one day before scheduling the retest.
Is prelicensing education required?
Maine repealed the former education requirement in 2007. The resident producer exam still applies unless an exemption applies. TSI is optional independent exam preparation, not required or state-endorsed education.
What is the current resident producer application fee?
NIPR currently lists $25, including a $15 application fee, excluding the NIPR transaction fee. Confirm the live fee before submitting.
What residency evidence is needed?
NIPR requires evidence of Maine residency or principal place of business through the Attachment Warehouse. Follow the current document instructions for the application.
Does every resident applicant need fingerprints?
The current NIPR requirements do not list universal fingerprinting for this route. Applicants who answer background questions affirmatively must provide the requested supporting documents.
What is the Maine apprentice producer route?
The separate apprentice producer route is sponsored, costs $50, lasts 180 days, and is nonrenewable. It is not the ordinary resident producer license path.
Is TSI promising an exam pass or license?
No. Purchase provides optional study access only. TSI does not guarantee study completion, exam passage, application approval, appointment, or license issuance.
