How much prelicensing education does Ohio require?
Ohio requires approved resident prelicensing education for the major lines: 20 hours for Life, 20 hours for Accident and Health, 20 hours for Property, and 20 hours for Casualty, unless an exemption applies. Ohio’s public provider lookup lists Insurance Training Professionals LLC / TSI National under Self Study for those categories. TSI’s current approved self-study offerings map Accident & Health approval 76118 and Life approval 76119 to the combined Life/Health course, and Property approval 76120 and Casualty approval 76121 to the combined Property/Casualty course, under Ohio provider 11280. Each line is a 20-hour self-study approval, and TSI reports completions through the Ohio ODI Education Provider Portal.
Exam, application, and fingerprint steps
Exam: Complete the required education, then pass the applicable Ohio insurance examination. Ohio’s current rule says the license application must be submitted within 180 calendar days after passing.
Application and background check: Request the required Ohio BCI and FBI criminal-record checks, pass the examination, and submit the application and current fees. Confirm the current testing, fingerprint, and transaction charges before filing.
