Inside your Hawaii Health Only course

Use the online course to build your foundation, then bring the topics you want to review to your selected live online session.

1. Definitions

Build the insurance vocabulary first. Keep a short review list so unfamiliar terms do not distract you from the coverage or benefit being tested.

2. Health Insurance

Connect health coverage, benefits and cost-sharing concepts to the situations in your lessons. Review the explanation behind an answer before trying another question.

3. State Regulation

Study the Hawaii material alongside the general insurance concepts. Keep a separate list of state-specific topics to revisit during practice review.

Try two course study examples

Choose an answer before opening the explanation. These original examples demonstrate insurance concepts; they are not state examination questions.

Calculate the insured’s share

Assume a $2,000 covered bill, a $500 deductible still to be met, and 20% insured coinsurance after the deductible. No other copay, limit or adjustment applies. What does the insured pay?

Show answer and reasoning 1

$500 + 20% of $1,500 = $800. The insurer’s share is $1,200. Apply the deductible first, then calculate coinsurance on the remaining covered amount.

Distinguish a premium from a deductible

A question names both a monthly health premium and a deductible that applies to covered expenses. Should you subtract the monthly premium when calculating the example claim payment?

Show answer and reasoning 2

No. The premium is the cost of maintaining coverage. The deductible is part of the covered-expense calculation under the stated policy terms. Keep the two concepts separate.

Examples use simplified assumptions. Actual policy terms and loss facts determine real coverage and payments.

Turn practice into a review plan

After working through the topics, use your course’s Practice Tests section to identify weak areas. Return to the relevant lesson and explain why the answer fits. Follow the instructions in Final Exam and any other completion steps shown in your course.

Reinforce your review with the course reference and printable study cards available in your course.
