Alabama Life & Health exam and resident-license path
Alabama no longer requires a prelicensing certificate. This online Self Study product provides optional independent preparation for the combined Life and Health producer exam and the separately available line exams.
1. Prepare for the combined exam
The combined Life and Health exam has 150 questions, allows 180 minutes, and requires 105 correct answers. The state also offers separate Life and Health exams.
2. Register with Alabama's exam vendor
The Alabama Department of Insurance identifies the University of Alabama as its exam vendor. The combined L&H exam is currently $75, nonrefundable, and must be scheduled at least seven days ahead.
3. Coordinate results and fingerprints
After passing, allow three to five business days for the grade to reach the licensing system. Alabama recommends using Fieldprint after the exam and one day before applying because fingerprint results remain available for only 30 days.
4. Apply through NIPR
Alabama lists an $80 Insurance Producer state fee, plus the NIPR transaction fee. Submit the online application and proof of citizenship; the state says an exam certificate is valid for one year.
Hiring or training an Alabama team?
Alabama's 2025 report lists 1,519 passes in 2,439 first-attempt combined L&H exams (62.3%) across all providers. Separately, TSI has historically seen first-attempt pass rates around 80% in tracked larger-group classes where complete outcome reporting is available. These populations are not directly comparable; the TSI figure is a cross-cohort management observation, not an Alabama- or Life and Health-specific aggregate or guarantee.
TSI supports recurring agency, carrier, and recruiting cohorts. Build a group licensing plan or email Support@TSINational.com.
