Illinois Life & Health prelicensing: what you must complete
Illinois requires 20 hours for each line: Life and Accident & Health. At least 7.5 hours for each line must be classroom instruction. This Illinois-approved Combination method therefore includes both a self-study portion and a webinar portion.
Complete both components: the combined path is 40 total prelicensing hours, including 15 classroom/webinar hours. Self-study alone does not satisfy Illinois prelicensing.
1. Complete self-study and webinar instruction
Work through the online lessons and study tools, then complete the required webinar instruction scheduled with your enrollment. TSI's approval notice records the filed course method as Combination because it includes both portions.
2. Pass both exam parts for each line
Illinois DOI directs candidates to register for the General and State examination for each line. Both parts for a line must be passed within 90 days. Take proof of course completion to the test center.
3. Wait five days, then apply through NIPR
After passing all required exam parts, wait five days before applying. NIPR currently lists a $215 producer fee and notes that the licensing fee may be prorated; transaction charges may be separate.
4. Complete the insurer appointment within 30 days
NIPR states that the appointment must be submitted and approved within 30 days of license issuance or the license is automatically canceled. Licensing and appointment remain separate from course purchase.
