Inside your Maryland Life & Health course
Work through the online course at your own pace. Use the lessons and practice to decide what to review next.
1. Definitions
Build the insurance vocabulary first. Keep a short review list so unfamiliar terms do not distract you from the coverage or benefit being tested.
2. Health Plans
Connect health coverage, benefits and cost-sharing concepts to the situations in your lessons. Review the explanation behind an answer before trying another question.
3. Life & Annuity
Connect policy roles, life insurance benefits and annuity concepts. Identify what the question is asking before comparing the answer choices.
4. State Regulation
Study the Maryland material alongside the general insurance concepts. Keep a separate list of state-specific topics to revisit during practice review.
Try two course study examples
Choose an answer before opening the explanation. These original examples demonstrate insurance concepts; they are not state examination questions.
Separate the policy roles
Morgan owns a life insurance policy covering Alex, and Casey is the beneficiary. Who is named to receive the death benefit?
Show answer and reasoning 1
Casey, the beneficiary. Morgan is the policyowner and Alex is the insured. Identify which role the question asks about before choosing an answer.
Apply the deductible before coinsurance
Assume $5,000 of covered, allowed health expenses, a $1,000 deductible still to be met, and an insurer that pays 80% afterward. No other cost-sharing or limit applies. What is the insurer’s share?
Show answer and reasoning 2
$5,000 − $1,000 = $4,000; 80% of $4,000 = $3,200. The member pays $1,800 in this example: the deductible plus $800 of coinsurance.
Examples use simplified assumptions. Actual policy terms and loss facts determine real coverage and payments.
Turn practice into a review plan
After working through the topics, use your course’s Practice Tests section to identify weak areas. Return to the relevant lesson and explain why the answer fits. Follow the instructions in Final Exam and any other completion steps shown in your course.
Reinforce your review with the course reference and printable study cards available in your course.

Optional Maryland Life & Health exam preparation
Maryland no longer requires an approved prelicensing program before the Life and Accident and Health or Sickness producer exam. This online Self Study product is optional independent preparation, not required or state-endorsed education.
1. Prepare for Prometric exam 2030
The combined Life and Accident and Health or Sickness Producer exam is code 2030. The current Prometric-linked outline lists 130 scored questions plus 10 unscored questions and a 150-minute time limit.
2. Choose test-center or remote delivery
Prometric currently offers Maryland insurance exams at test centers and through remote proctoring. The licensing bulletin lists a $62 fee. Confirm the current delivery, equipment, identification, and fee rules when scheduling.
3. Use the current retake rule
If you do not pass, Maryland requires a four-day wait before retaking the same exam. Prometric displays the result at the end and emails a score report.
4. Apply after passing
Submit the resident producer application through NIPR after the exam. Maryland and NIPR currently list a $54 state fee per application, excluding the NIPR transaction fee.
Annuity authority boundary: Prometric exam 2030 covers Life and Accident and Health or Sickness. Maryland treats Variable Life and Variable Annuity as a separate authority with additional Life-license, FINRA-exam, SIE, and active-registration requirements.
Hiring or training a Maryland team?
TSI supports recurring agency, carrier, and recruiting cohorts. Tracked larger-group classes have had first-attempt pass rates around 80% where complete outcome reporting is available; results vary by state, license line, and cohort, and this is not a Maryland- or Life and Health-specific result.
