Inside your Iowa Property & Casualty course

Work through the online course at your own pace. Use the lessons and practice to decide what to review next.

1. Definitions

Build the insurance vocabulary first. Keep a short review list so unfamiliar terms do not distract you from the coverage or benefit being tested.

2. Personal Insurance

Work through the personal insurance material and distinguish the property, people and coverage involved in each example.

3. Business Insurance

Build on the earlier insurance concepts with business coverage. Identify the insured interest, loss and coverage terms before choosing an answer.

4. State Regulation

Study the Iowa material alongside the general insurance concepts. Keep a separate list of state-specific topics to revisit during practice review.

Try two course study examples

Choose an answer before opening the explanation. These original examples demonstrate insurance concepts; they are not state examination questions.

Work through a property deductible

Assume $4,500 of covered property damage, a $500 deductible and a sufficient policy limit. No depreciation or other adjustment applies. What is the insurer’s payment?

Show answer and reasoning 1

$4,500 − $500 = $4,000. Start with the covered amount, apply the stated deductible and then consider any relevant limit.

Separate property and liability questions

One question describes covered damage to the policyholder’s own building. Another describes a claim that the policyholder caused injury to someone else. Which concepts should you consider?

Show answer and reasoning 2

The first raises a property-coverage question; the second raises a liability-coverage question. Identify who suffered the loss and whose responsibility is being considered, then read the policy terms in the example.

Examples use simplified assumptions. Actual policy terms and loss facts determine real coverage and payments.

Turn practice into a review plan

After working through the topics, use your course’s Practice Tests (Unlimited) section to identify weak areas. Return to the relevant lesson and explain why the answer fits. Follow the instructions in Final Exam and any other completion steps shown in your course.

Reinforce your review with the course reference and printable study cards available in your course.

Iowa Property & Casualty exam and license path

Iowa has no prelicensing requirement, and the Iowa Insurance Division does not endorse study materials or vendors. This online Self Study product is optional independent exam preparation for Iowa's separate Property and Casualty examinations—not state-required or state-approved education, Pearson VUE, either exam, NIPR, Fieldprint, fingerprints, application, appointment, or producer license.

1. Choose optional exam preparation

Product 1229 provides 70 days of online Self Study access for P&C exam preparation. Iowa does not require prelicensing, and TSI makes no required-provider, recommendation, approval, or endorsement claim.

2. Schedule both exams

Take Property 12-IA-03 and Casualty 12-IA-04. Pearson currently lists 2 hours and $44 per exam. Test-center and OnVUE delivery are available; reserve at least 24 hours ahead. Walk-ins are not available.

3. Study each General and Iowa portion

Property totals 81 scoreable and 10 unscored pretest questions. Casualty totals 83 scoreable and 10 unscored pretest questions. IID determines the passing score; Pearson reports pass or fail, and the current sources do not publish one universal numeric passing score.

4. Apply, then complete fingerprints

After results transfer, apply through NIPR within 90 days after passing. NIPR currently lists a $50 Iowa state fee, excluding its transaction fee. Initial resident fingerprinting follows after submitting the NIPR application; the confirmation supplies the IID Fieldprint code and NPN.

Reexamination: Pearson requires a candidate to wait 24 hours before making a reexamination reservation.

Fingerprint cost/timing: IID currently lists $34.35 at an Iowa site or $36.35 outside Iowa and says results typically arrive in 3-5 business days. Confirm current amounts and instructions in the application confirmation before acting.

Current official Iowa sources

Course boundary: The $114.95 purchase provides 70 days of optional independent online Self Study access. It does not include Pearson registration, either examination or fee, the Iowa or NIPR fees, application, fingerprints, criminal-history checks, insurer appointment, or producer license. TSI does not claim Iowa Insurance Division, Pearson VUE, NIPR, or Fieldprint recommendation or endorsement and does not guarantee study completion, exam passage, application approval, appointment, or license issuance.
