North Dakota Property & Casualty exam and resident-license path
The Department says applicants may prepare through classroom instruction or self-study and do not provide proof of study. This 70-day online Self Study product is optional independent exam preparation, not required education, a completion certificate, or a regulator-approved course.
Separate lines and exams: North Dakota lists Property and Casualty separately. To seek both lines, prepare for and pass the separate PSI Property and Casualty examinations.
1. Prepare for two exams
Property and Casualty each currently contain 110 items, allow 150 minutes, cost $64, and require 70 percent or 77 correct answers. For both lines, plan for two appointments, 220 items, and $128 in current exam fees.
2. Schedule and protect the fee
Schedule through PSI. To cancel or reschedule without forfeiting the fee, PSI must receive notice at least two days before the appointment. Use the PSI website or speak directly with customer service; voicemail and email are not accepted cancellation methods.
3. Retake if needed
PSI permits unlimited retakes. A new appointment cannot be made on the same day as a failed exam. Scheduling can begin the next day, and the earliest available retest depends on space.
4. Complete fingerprints and apply
Exam results are valid for one year. Initial resident applicants generally submit hard-copy fingerprints for a state and national background check and apply through NIPR within that window. At a PSI test center, current fingerprint amounts are $29 to PSI plus $40 payable to the North Dakota Attorney General. The initial producer state fee is $100; NIPR transaction fees are separate.
