South Dakota P&C exam and license path
South Dakota requires no pre-licensing education and does not specify an official study material. This online Self Study product is optional exam preparation, not Pearson VUE, the exam, NIPR application, insurer appointment, or license.
1. Choose exam-preparation materials
The Division of Insurance lets candidates choose their study materials. TSI is an independent option and does not claim state endorsement or required-provider status.
2. Choose individual or combination testing
The April 2026 handbook lists individual Property and Casualty exams plus one Property & Casualty combination exam. It lists $85 for an individual exam and $95 for a combination exam; verify current fees when scheduling.
3. Schedule a test center or OnVUE exam
Pearson VUE currently lists Property, Casualty, and the P&C combination for test centers and OnVUE online proctoring. Online candidates must meet current system, workspace, identification, and proctoring requirements.
4. Apply through NIPR after passing
Allow the result to reach SBS and NIPR, then submit the resident producer application. The current handbook says major-line candidates must apply within 180 days. Passing does not itself issue a license.
