Reduced-hour license categories
County Mutual, Life Insurance Under $25,000, and Limited Lines Agent licenses are listed by TDI at 10 hours per two-year renewal period, including 3 ethics hours. Funeral Prearrangement is listed with no CE requirement.
Completion deadline and fines
TDI states CE must be completed before the license expiration date. Missing hours can trigger a $50 fine per deficient hour, up to the applicable limit, and renewal can be delayed until the deficiency is handled.
Course categories
TDI groups agent and adjuster CE into General and Ethics. Courses are not divided by license type, but product-specific certification rules can still apply before certain sales activity.

Certifications and special training
Which CE hours can give you more than renewal credit?
Some CE courses also support a product-specific certification or carrier compliance requirement. Do not treat general CE as a substitute for a required product course.
Medicare-related products
Texas life, accident, and health agents must complete an approved 8-hour Medicare-related product certification course before acting as an agent for Medicare-related products. After certification, TDI lists a 4-hour Medicare-related CE requirement in later reporting periods.

Agents who want to sell annuities must complete approved Annuity Best Interest training. Texas identifies the four-credit course category as Annuity Best Interest 4, and resident agents have annuity-specific CE after certification.
Ethics and consumer protection
Most major renewals need 3 ethics hours inside the 24-hour total. TSI's 4-hour Ethics for Insurance Professionals course is built for agents who need that topic clearly documented.

How many CE hours do most Texas agents need?
Most major Texas agent and adjuster licenses require 24 hours during each two-year renewal period, including 3 ethics or consumer protection hours. Some license categories have a 10-hour requirement or no CE requirement, so check your own TDI record.
Are ethics hours included in the 24 hours?
Yes. For most major renewals, the 3 ethics hours are included inside the 24-hour total.
How many hours must be classroom equivalent?
At least half of the required Texas CE hours must be classroom or classroom equivalent. For the common 24-hour renewal, that means at least 12 classroom or classroom-equivalent hours.
Does the Medicare course give certification?
The 8-hour Medicare-related Product Certification course is for agents who need Texas Medicare-related product certification. TDI also lists a 4-hour Medicare-related CE requirement in each later reporting period after certification.
Does AML count as a separate TDI certification?
No. AML is compliance training documentation and Texas CE credit, not a separate TDI product authority certification.
What should I buy if I only need one CE topic?
Use the single-topic course. Do not buy the 24+ hour package if your licensing record only calls for a specific 4- or 8-hour course.
