Current Wisconsin resident sequence
- Choose Life & Health, Property & Casualty, or both based on the authority needed.
- Complete at least 20 hours of approved education for each line: 8 common hours and 12 line-specific hours. The common 8 hours need not be repeated for another line when completed within 12 months.
- For asynchronous study, pass the proctored final course examination and submit the proctor affidavit. The course final is not the state exam.
- Keep the completion certificate; it must be shown at the test center and remains valid for one year.
- Schedule each needed PSI state exam: Life 22-01, Accident and Health or Sickness 22-03, Property 22-05, or Casualty 22-07. OCI currently lists each at $75.
- Use Fieldprint code FPWIOCIINSURANCE for resident fingerprints. OCI currently lists a $34.75 fee and 180-day validity.
- After passing, wait 48-72 hours for scores to reach NIPR, then submit the resident application. Passing exam results remain valid for 180 days.
- NIPR currently lists a $10 Wisconsin state fee per application for exam-required individual lines; the NIPR transaction fee is additional.
- Application approval, any required appointment, and license issuance remain separate from the course, exam, and application.

Can the common education hours be reused?
Of each 20-hour requirement, 8 hours cover common insurance principles, Wisconsin law, and ethics, while 12 hours are line-specific. The common 8 hours need not be repeated for another line when completed within 12 months.
Does asynchronous study require a course final?
Yes. An asynchronous prelicensing course requires a proctored final course examination and affidavit. That course final is separate from the PSI state examination.
Which state exams apply?
