This is a requirements guide, not a confirmation that your own license is active or your application will be approved.

Choose the right lookup path

• Interest: Use the route for a new application or reinstatement, renewal, or contact changes.
• State: Select the state where you need the license.
• Resident type: Distinguish your resident-state license from a license sought in another state.
• Application type: Choose an individual or a business entity.

TSI planning suggestion: Write these choices at the top of your notes. If you are researching for several agents, use a separate record for each person and state. A useful record makes it easy for another person to see which instructions you actually reviewed.

If your license has expired

NIPR notes that some states route missed renewals through a new application. That statement does not establish a new exam or prelicensing course requirement. Check the applicable state instructions before buying training. See NIPR’s explanation of application and renewal routes.

If you are renewing

NIPR says most resident individual renewals require CE before state acceptance. Check your state’s applicable conditions; do not turn that general description into a universal deadline or course requirement.

Turn your research into a useful next step

The following is TSI’s planning worksheet, not a regulator’s checklist. Copy it into your study or team notes:

• My task: What am I trying to apply for, renew or correct?
• My scope: Which person or entity, state, residency and license type am I researching?
• My evidence: Which official page did I read, on what date, and which section answers my question?
• My uncertainty: What is still unanswered? Write the question rather than filling the gap with an assumption.
• My next action: What will I do next, and who will confirm it is done?

Before choosing training, separate three questions in your notes: Do I need an education course, do I need exam preparation, or am I researching renewal education? Leave a question unresolved until you have supporting instructions. A course purchase should not be your evidence that a license is active.
