Inside your Texas Property & Casualty course
Work through the online course at your own pace. Use the lessons and practice to decide what to review next.
1. Definitions
Build the insurance vocabulary first. Keep a short review list so unfamiliar terms do not distract you from the coverage or benefit being tested.
2. Personal Insurance
Work through the personal insurance material and distinguish the property, people and coverage involved in each example.
3. Business Insurance
Build on the earlier insurance concepts with business coverage. Identify the insured interest, loss and coverage terms before choosing an answer.
4. State Regulation
Study the Texas material alongside the general insurance concepts. Keep a separate list of state-specific topics to revisit during practice review.
Turn practice into a review plan
After working through the topics, use your course’s Practice Tests section to identify weak areas. Return to the relevant lesson and explain why the answer fits. Follow the instructions in Final Exam and any other completion steps shown in your course.
Reinforce your review with the course reference and printable study cards available in your course.

P&C sample: applying a deductible
A deductible is the portion of a covered loss the insured retains under the policy. To solve a simple deductible question, first check that the loss is covered, then identify the applicable deductible and any limit.
Work through an example. A covered collision causes $2,400 of damage to an insured car. The applicable collision deductible is $500. Assume no other limit or adjustment changes the payment. How much does the insurer pay?
Show the answer and reasoning
$2,400 − $500 = $1,900
The insured retains $500 and the insurer pays $1,900. Do not subtract the annual premium from the claim: the premium buys coverage, while the deductible applies to the covered loss.
Original practice example based on the deductible concepts in TSI's P&C course and quick reference. It is not a state exam question. Actual coverage and settlement depend on the policy and loss.
How the course builds on this topic
- Build the vocabulary: general insurance and P&C definitions.
- Study personal insurance: dwelling, homeowners, personal auto and other personal policies.
- Study business insurance: general liability, commercial auto and property, businessowners, crime, bonds and workers compensation.
- Review regulation and practice: study the assigned regulatory material, use practice tests and revisit topics you miss.
A practical study rhythm: complete one topic, try the related practice, and review the explanation before moving on. Set your pace within the 70-day access period; a suggested sequence is not a promised completion time.

2. Use the current outline

3. Begin the fingerprint process
Use TDI's initial-application and fingerprint portal for the current service code and instructions. Most regular resident applicants must complete a fingerprint background check unless a listed exception applies.
4. Apply after passing
For the regular resident path, pass the exam before applying through Sircon or NIPR. TDI currently lists a $50 application fee and a one-year deadline after passing.
