Current Maryland resident sequence
- Choose Life & Health, Property & Casualty, or both based on the authority needed.
- Use optional independent Self Study if helpful. Effective October 1, 2024, Maryland no longer requires an approved program of study before the producer examination.
- Choose Prometric exam 2030, Life and Accident and Health or Sickness Producer – Combo, or exam 2032, Property and Casualty Producer – Combo. Each is currently listed at $62.
- Exam 2030 has 130 scored plus 10 unscored questions; exam 2032 has 120 scored plus 10 unscored questions. Each has a 2.5-hour time limit.
- Choose a physical Prometric test center or the remotely proctored ProProctor option.
- After a failed attempt, wait four days before taking the same examination again.
- After passing, submit the resident application through NIPR. The current Maryland state fee is $54 per insurance-producer application; the NIPR transaction fee is additional.
- NIPR verifies the examination before allowing submission. Provide any required documents with the application.
- Application approval, any required appointment, and license issuance remain separate from the course, exam, and application.

Can I take a Maryland producer exam remotely?

What is the retake rule?
A candidate who fails must wait four days before taking the same Maryland examination again. Examination fees are not refundable or transferable.
