New Jersey Insurance CE Renewal Requirements and Checklist

New Jersey producer renewal is much easier when CE is finished and visible before renewal. This page replaces the old fallback article with a practical CE checklist.

Renewal checklist

  1. Check PSI or the CE transcript before renewal; credits must be recorded with PSI and the Department.
  2. Complete 24 credits with at least 3 approved ethics credits.
  3. Add the one-time 3-credit flood or NFIP course if authorized to sell flood insurance.
  4. Allow up to 15 days for provider reporting.
  5. Use carryover only for eligible non-ethics credits and stay within the 12-credit cap.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Trying to renew before PSI and DOBI show CE satisfied.
  • Assuming ethics credits can carry over.
  • Forgetting the flood or NFIP course when authorized to sell flood insurance.
  • Waiting more than 1 year after expiration and expecting a normal late renewal.

Late-renewal and timing notes

  • Grace period: NIPR notes New Jersey allows a 30-day grace period to renew without a late fee after expiration.
  • Late renewal: NIPR lists late-renewal timing from 31 days after expiration through one year past expiration.
  • Fees: NIPR lists a $150 renewal fee and $250 late-renewal fee for major-line producer combinations, and $75 renewal / $125 late renewal for limited-line producer combinations.
  • Flood: NJDOBI’s producer regulation notice identifies one-time 3-hour flood training for producers selling flood coverage.

Course planning

TSI National can help you plan CE, but NJDOBI, PSI, and NIPR control CE approval, transcript status, and renewal submission. Start with the PSI transcript, then choose approved courses that close the exact total and ethics gap. You can review training options on the TSI National course results page.
