North Dakota Insurance CE Renewal Requirements and Checklist

North Dakota renewal has two separate requirements: CE compliance and the renewal application/fee. Both must be handled before the expiration date.

North Dakota at a glance

Short answers first. Open a detail only when you need the source-backed nuance.

Standard totalResidents covered

Details

Resident producers licensed for life and annuities, accident and health, casualty, property, personal lines, crop hail, or combinations of those lines must complete at least 24 approved CE credit hours per biennial compliance period.

Ethics3 ethics hrs

Details

3 ethics hours are required as part of the 24-credit CE total.

Renewal dateBirth-month cycle

Details

Individual producers renew biennially by the last day of their birth month.

Renewal windowBy renewal deadline

Details

North Dakota allows renewal within 90 days of license expiration.

No grace periodReview detail

Details

The Department states there is no grace period after the due date. If not renewed before expiration, the license and appointments are canceled.

NPN reportingVerify provider

Details

Give your National Producer Number to CE providers; North Dakota uses the NPN as the license number.

Renewal checklist

  1. Find your license expiration date and CE compliance status.
  2. Complete 24 approved CE credits if your line requires CE.
  3. Make sure at least 3 credits are ethics.
  4. Give providers your NPN so credits report to the correct record.
  5. Confirm required CE hours are on file with the Department before renewal.
  6. Submit the NIPR renewal application within 90 days before expiration and pay the renewal fee.
  7. Print or save the renewed license through SBS after approval.

What to watch

  • CE alone is not renewal: the renewal application and fee are separate.
  • No grace period: missing the expiration date cancels the license and appointments.
  • NPN matters: incorrect producer identifiers can delay CE posting.

Course planning

TSI National can help you plan CE, but the North Dakota Insurance Department controls CE compliance and renewal approval. Start with your CE record and expiration date, then choose courses that close the total and ethics gaps. You can review training options on the TSI National course results page.
